Indian Culture

Culture

Culture is something we have always been proud of Our great culture, Unity in Diversity are somethings which made our chest expand to 56”. But is this culture really that great ?
Indian society have given icons like Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda. Great emperors like Ashoka, Akbar have ruled this nation. We have hundreds of arts, dance styles, music, dresses, customs but does these materialistic things define our culture ?
A culture is defined by the values that the people of that culture have. Some great people did great things doesn’t necessarily means that the whole culture is great. Every culture and society have some plus and minus points, but in India it seems that the minus points are a bit more than the good ones.
We clean our Homes, not our nation.

We rush on roads, but don’t look back to the injured.
We want our nation clean, but we will defecate in open.
We bribe the traffic police, but won’t pay the fine.
We want clean air, but we will burn crackers too.
We want jobs, but won’t create them.

One thing is that nothing can be absolutely Perfect. What we should do is to accept the positive change, to give up the wrong deeds, to be rational.
I'll tell you a real incident, we wanted to organize a special camp for the volunteers of my college unit. We contacted one of the officials of the university of concerned department and he denied it. We asked him why, he said “No such thing happened in the past 65 years, there must be a reason for that” and when we asked why he went silent. I mean literally man is this even enough to be a reason, and it is happening when such camps really take place in other parts of the country.
Some of the things that are responsible for this lack of values are:
  • Small greed
  • Fear of change
  • Fear of Failure
  • Irresponsibility and corruption
  • Lack of application of values taught in class in real life.
It is commonly and very easily shown in movies that poor are good and the rich are evil. Movies really do have a huge impact on our thoughts. The truth is that a man with values and dedication to these values is the good one.
And we lack this kind of persons a lot.
One or two great persons alone cannot make the whole the whole society great but they can show us the way to become better.
And that’s the path we Indians need to take.

If we don’t change the way we think we can’t bring the change.
