Delhi Life

Delhi Life

Delhi, the capital of India which is not just the political, economic and cultural center of the Nation, but is also home to around 20 million human beings. Apart from this several lac people come to Delhi daily for their jobs. This made the capital the second most populous city in the world.

Delhi gives jobs, Delhi gives Hope to millions of people from the nearby states to run their lives better.
But everything comes at a price.

Along with being the world’s second-most populous city, it is also the most polluted city in the whole world. The city consists of factories, heavy industries, thermal power plants, and thousands of vehicles on the road every time.

Now let’s talk about some facts:
Did you know that:
  • Breathing in Delhi is like smoking 20+ Cigarettes everyday.
  • The life expectancy of a person living in Delhi is reduced by 7 years.
  • Delhi is the most polluted city in the world.
  • Pollution in Delhi claims the lives of more than 10000 people every year at an increasing rate.

The condition is severe during the Diwali season. The Air Quality gets poor from the Dushhera itself and keeps on degrading and things get really out of control on the Diwali night. With the fireworks and crackers bursting at every turn and roofs the air gets so bad that one feels suffocated.

The situation becomes even more critical when the smoke from the slash burning from Haryana and Punjab states reach the city. This is the Worst time and unfortunately, it lasts for the whole winter.

For the outsiders:
If you are moving to Delhi you may get diseased by Asthma, Cancer, High Blood pressure, and other pulmonary diseases.
If you are visiting Delhi for a trip with family and friends, Winters might not be the best time.

Who is to be blamed?
When it comes to accountability it’s not just the Government or factories but all of us.
We put green Diwali, Clean Diwali status on our Whatsapp and Instagram but burst crackers.
People think that with all the blasts and heavy fireworks a little sparkle will not make any significant difference, but it really does. Also just like you, there are around 20 lac people who think the same way and light 20 lac sparkles. Now you can relate it with your one little source of starlight.

What Should be done-
What we need is strict and strong laws forced upon everyone related.
  • Manufacture, selling and purchasing of crackers should be completely banned, and the police should raid in the areas with possible cracker bursting.
  • Awards for whistle-blowers for the above point.
  • Vertical plantation and gardens beneath every flyover and bridge.
  • A limited or complete ban on the operation of power plants and other big factories.
  • Increased DTC and Cluster buses fleet in the city with more coaches in the metro trains.
  • Green shuttles and electric cabs running in the city.
  • Large scale campaigning for Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Tree plantation.
  • Free sapling distribution during Diwali on a large scale.
  • Creation of a government department which will take the slash from the farmers to a composting plant and return manure at affordable rates, rather than giving compensation
These are some of the immediate actions that must take place to control the situation at the moment. For long term solution psychological development must be achieved. As long as people won’t realise and act, things are never going to be better. The Mischievous elements always find loopholes through everything. So change in thinking is really very important.
If the Government don’t take these actions we must stage protest for them.

Crocin is not enough now as it is cancer, so we must treat it as cancer and follow the correct treatment.
It is Now or Never.
